KATHMANDU, Dec 19: A woman in her 30s attempted suicide by consuming a bottle of pesticide on Thursday at the Patan High Court after the court upheld bail for the man she had accused of rape.
The victim, a government employee at the District Treasury Controller Office in Kathmandu, had filed a case against a section officer at the Office of the Auditor General, alleging sexual assault. She had approached the Patan High Court on August 6 to challenge the Kathmandu District Court’s earlier decision to grant bail to the accused.

During the hearing, the High Court confirmed the lower court’s decision, allowing the accused to remain free while the case proceeds. Shocked and distressed by the ruling, the woman first attempted to ingest pesticide inside the courtroom. She was quickly escorted outside by police and kept under supervision during office hours.
“She had attempted to eat the pesticide inside the court room itself, but was swiftly stopped by security forces present there. She was escorted outside and kept in the premises until the verdict of the court came,” said a source at the court.
However, after the court closed and security personnel left the premises, she again ingested pesticide at the court’s gate. Court gatekeepers intervened immediately and the police rushed her to nearby Patan Hospital, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition and is undergoing treatment at ICU.
