Remittance outflows increase 12 percent to Rs 9.75 billion in 10 months

KATHMANDU, June 27: Remittance outflows from the country increased 12 percent to Rs 9.75 billion in 10 months of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025/26.



The records with Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) show that the foreign workers employed in the country took away the aforementioned amount of money from Nepal during mid-July 2025 and mid-May 2026. In the review period last FY, a total of Rs 8.71 billion was drained out of the country via foreign citizens receiving work permits. The figures include only the amount transferred through formal channels.

Many citizens from countries like China, the UK, the USA, Korea, Japan and India have been working in different fields of the country. In addition, technical workers in the construction of infrastructure projects including hydropower have been increasing. Similarly, the presence of foreign workers can also be seen in joint venture organizations like Standard Chartered Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, LIC Nepal, National Insurance, Oriental Insurance, Himalayan Re-Insurance, a large number of NGOs and diplomatic missions.  


The NRB records show that both the remittance inflows and outflows have been escalating every year. Nepal received remittances worth Rs 1.916 trillion in the review period this year.
