KATHMANDU, June 11: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi has accused the concerned minister of misleading a parliamentary committee during discussions on customs duty evasion.
Speaking in Thursday’s House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, Shahi demanded the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate alleged irregularities in tariff revisions and customs revenue leakage.
He clarified that his demand for an investigation was not intended to obstruct government work, but to bring out the facts behind the controversy.

Shahi said repeated commitments to good governance have not translated into effective implementation, raising concerns over accountability in revenue administration.
Citing the Auditor General’s report, he claimed that irregularities worth around Rs 2.50 billion were found in revenue exemptions at Tatopani, Rasuwagadhi, and Korola border points during the previous government.
He further noted that, according to audit findings, tax recovery worth approximately Rs 3.77 billion remains pending across the country.
Raising questions in Parliament, Shahi said the vehicle arrives on June 4, while customs clearance is recorded on May 28. “How can it arrive without knowing the tariff rate?” he asked, demanding the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee.
He reiterated his demand for a parliamentary investigation committee, saying the objective is not to target individuals but to ensure transparency and public accountability.
