KATHMANDU, April 9: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to back the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR).

RPP Parliamentary Party Leader Gyanendra Shahi said his party is filing a nomination with RSP’s support. “We are on our way to Singha Durbar to submit the nomination after RSP assured us of its support,” he told Republica in a brief telephone conversation.

Shahi added that lawmaker Saraswati Lama, elected under proportional representation, will be RPP’s candidate for the post.

Nomination registration for the Deputy Speaker is currently underway, with the election scheduled for Friday.

Since the Speaker and Deputy Speaker cannot be from the same party, RSP has chosen to support RPP. RPP currently has five lawmakers in the HoR.
