SC asks cheque issuer to pay additional 10 percent interest in case of cheque bounce

The Supreme Court (SC) issued a verdict on a case of bank cheque bounce to provide interest of 10 percent per annum in addition to the principal amount to suffer by the organizations and individuals who issue the cheque.

KATHMANDU, June 8: The Supreme Court (SC) issued a verdict on a case of bank cheque bounce to provide interest of 10 percent per annum in addition to the principal amount to suffer by the organizations and individuals who issue the cheque.

A joint bench of SC judges Kumar Regmi and Bal Krishna Dhakal has recently given the verdict on the case if payment providers issue cheque without having adequate amount of deposit in banks. The defaulters will have to bear an additional cost for the period since when the cheque is issued until the actual payment is made.
