KATHMANDU, June 25: The heat wave affecting the western Terai region is expected to persist today. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has warned that some areas of the Terai, particularly in the Far West and Lumbini regions, could continue to experience high temperatures.
Bibhuti Pokharel, spokesperson for the DHM, urged residents of the Terai districts in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces to remain especially cautious due to the extreme heat, which could pose risks to public health. The weather forecast indicates that Dhangadhi could see temperatures soar to between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, while Nepalgunj may record temperatures ranging from 39 to 41 degrees Celsius.

In Bhairahawa, Birgunj, Ghorahi, and Simara, temperatures are expected to hover between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius. The department also said there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
Rainfall may also occur in the Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Taplejung. The forecast indicates that the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley will range from 28 to 30 degrees Celsius today.
The DHM has advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the afternoon, stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, and pay special attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.
