MAHENDRANAGAR, June 9: Hospitals and health institutions in Sudurpaschim Province have been facing a shortage of anti-rabies vaccines for the past two weeks. The vaccines are essential emergency medicines for people suffering from bites of dogs, jackals and other animals.
A vector control officer at the Sudurpaschim Province Health Secretariat, Hemraj Joshi, said the provincial government had allocated Rs 1 million for the procurement of rabies vaccines, which was sufficient until two months ago. “But we are now facing a shortage,” he added.

Government hospitals provide anti-rabies vaccines free of cost. However, service seekers are now being forced to buy them from private hospitals and health facilities due to the supply shortage.
The Social Development Ministry in the province, meanwhile, has written to health offices, district hospitals and local levels, directing them to take measures to manage the vaccine supply.
