Speaker Aryal and UAE envoy discuss expanding bilateral cooperation

KATHMANDU, June 18: Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal held a courtesy meeting with Abdullah Jarwan Al Shamsi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nepal, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.



During the meeting, discussions covered parliamentary cooperation, trade, investment, tourism, labour migration, aviation, technology, and artificial intelligence. Both sides expressed interest in deepening engagement in these areas.


Speaker Aryal described the UAE as an important partner for Nepal in terms of employment opportunities for Nepali workers, as well as trade and investment. He stressed the need to further expand economic and development partnerships between the two countries.

He also requested a review of existing visa procedures that require police reports from Nepali citizens, urging for a more simplified and citizen-friendly process.


Aryal shared that Nepal is currently implementing a governance reform agenda that includes 100 action points aimed at improving service delivery, transparency, digitalization, and citizen access to public services. He also reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to creating a more investment-friendly environment.


Highlighting connectivity initiatives, the Speaker welcomed the approval of the upcoming daily direct Pokhara–Dubai–Pokhara flight service starting September 23, stating that it would significantly enhance Nepal’s international air connectivity. He also suggested exploring the possibility of resuming the Dubai–Bhairahawa–Dubai route.


He further informed that parliamentary friendship groups have recently been formed in the House of Representatives, which will help strengthen inter-parliamentary exchanges, visits, and institutional cooperation between Nepal and the UAE.


Ambassador Al Shamsi described Nepal–UAE relations as friendly, cordial, and multi-dimensional. He said the UAE is positive about further expanding cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, energy, technology, and people-to-people ties, and remains committed to exploring new areas of mutual benefit.
