KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Sri Lanka has provided Nepal with $1 million in financial assistance to support relief and humanitarian efforts for victims of the devastating floods.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya handed over the assistance to Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal during a courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Ambassador Delpitiya expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Sri Lankan government and people over the loss of lives, property and infrastructure caused by the floods. She also conveyed Sri Lanka’s solidarity with the government and people of Nepal and said the assistance was aimed at supporting ongoing relief efforts in the affected areas.
Foreign Minister Khanal expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan government and people for their solidarity and financial support at a difficult time for Nepal.
Khanal said Sri Lanka’s assistance reflected the deep friendship, mutual support and cooperation between Nepal and Sri Lanka. He also thanked Sri Lanka for the goodwill and support it had shown towards Nepal during the disaster.
