KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Sudan Gurung, coordinator of the Hami Nepal organisation, has announced his intention to contest the forthcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections from Gorkha constituency No. 1.
Gurung announced through social media, formally declaring his candidacy for the HoR election. “I would like to officially announce my candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary election from Gorkha-1,” he wrote, adding, “Change begins from one’s own village, one’s own soil. A new force, a new face, a new Nepal.”

He had participated in the protests held on September 8 and 9 and visited Gorkha some time ago following public questions raised about his citizenship status. Gurung travelled to his birthplace in Chum Nubri, Gorkha, where he met locals and submitted an application requesting an official investigation into his citizenship.
Following the Gen Z-led movement, Gurung was also directly involved in discussions related to government formation. In recent months, he has been seen engaging in political coordination involving the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah, and Ujyalo Nepal Party leader Kulman Ghising.
