SUDURPASCHIM, Sept 13: Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province Khagaraj Bhatta has said the Atwari festival observed mainly by the Tharu community will foster harmony, brotherhood and social unity among all.
Giving a message of best wishes on the Atwari festival day today, CM Bhatta believed the festival is instrumental in encouraging everyone to preserve and promote the rich culture, traditions and identity of the Tharu people. "On this significant occasion of joy, I extend my best wishes to all the sisters and brothers of the Tharu community for happiness, peace, prosperity, good health and progress," the message stated.
Dagaura Tharu community celebrating Atwari festival today
The Atwari festival is observed with fanfare by the Tharu people living in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts in far-western region of Nepal. Its celebration takes place in the month of Bhadra, specifically on the Sunday following Krishna Janmashtami. However, some areas mark it on the first Sunday after Kusheaushi.
