SUDURPASCHIM, June 2: The Sudurpaschim Province government has adopted a policy to prioritize the completion of provincial pride projects by allocating budgets based on a project prioritization procedure and a project bank. It will also make project selection and prioritization more result-oriented.

The policies and programmes presented by Province Chief Najir Miya in the Province Assembly on Monday for the fiscal year 2026/27 underscore sectoral projects, taking into account the achievements of the province’s first five-year plan, the goals and priorities set by the second five-year plan, and the current periodic plan of the federal government. The budget will seek to balance these aspects.

The provincial government has introduced a policy to allocate budgets and extend facilitation, coordination, and regulation for the completion of provincial pride projects in the upcoming year. Except for drinking water projects, the government will not allocate less than Rs 2.5 million to development activities. If a subnational government intends to carry out any activity requiring less than Rs 2.5 million, it may be forwarded by the local government through fiscal transfers.

Frugality, transparency, and effectiveness in public spending, curtailment of unproductive schemes, strict fiscal discipline, clearance of arrears, and auditing have been given top priority by the provincial government.

The subnational government is launching a skill development drive through the “Province Chief Startup Programme.” An investment-friendly environment will be created to strengthen the provincial economy; provincial roads will be prioritized and upgraded under the provincial road network perspective, and access roads for the agricultural economy will be constructed.

The government has also emphasized public-private partnerships to create an investment-friendly environment, thereby boosting the province’s economy.

Enforcement of the integrated agriculture irrigation project, continuation of citizen housing programmes, creation of jobs and entrepreneurship, Chief Minister Dasharath Chand’s small industries programme, Dasharath Chand’s skill-based training and capacity-building initiatives, and Dwarikadevi Thakurani’s women’s entrepreneurship programmes are also included in the list.

“Tourism Infrastructure: Basis of a Prosperous Province” is another programme aimed at expanding tourism activities in the region. The province will be developed as an attractive and safe tourism destination by ensuring necessary infrastructure, including a trekking route from Api-Surma to Rama Roshan via Saipal, Khaptad, Rani Sain, and Badimalika.

The government has described forests as the wealth of the province. The “Chief Minister Health Sector Improvement Programme” aims to strengthen healthcare services, especially for the prevention of sickle cell anaemia.

Development of sports, honoring medal-winning players, modernization and commercialization of agriculture, and youth entrepreneurship are other priorities in the policies and programmes. Farmer identification programmes will also be introduced in the province.
