ILAM, March 8: CPN-UML candidate Suhang Nembang has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Ilam-2, marking a significant political win in the constituency.
Nembang defeated Bhesh Raj Acharya of the Nepali Congress by a margin of 7,776 votes. He secured 22,426 votes, while Acharya received 14,650 votes. Other candidates also trailed behind, with Shram Sanskriti Party candidate Sudip Rai getting 14,400 votes, and Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Gokul Bahadur Rai securing 7,814 votes. Nepali Communist Party candidate Om Bahadur Gurung received 1,172 votes.

This victory marks Nembang’s second success in parliamentary elections. In the 2023 by-election, he defeated Dambar Bahadur Khadka by 5,820 votes, securing 27,772 votes against Khadka’s 21,942.
For Acharya, this defeat was another setback in the constituency. Earlier, in the 2013 Constituent Assembly election, he had lost to Subas Chandra Nembang—Suhang Nembang’s father—by 2,102 votes.
The election, held on March 5, saw a voter turnout of 67,664 out of 119,489 registered voters. A total of 3,883 ballots were declared invalid, while 14 candidates from 13 political parties and one independent candidate competed in the race.
