KATHMANDU, June 28: Police have arrested three individuals on charges of allegedly defrauding job seekers by promising overseas employment in different countries.
According to the Nepal Police Central News Desk, those arrested are Gagan Bahadur Syangtan of Bara, Nirjal Basnet of Sarlahi and Bal Bahadur Chand Thakuri of Dang.

Police said Syangtan allegedly collected Rs 430,000 from four victims after promising to send them to the Maldives. Basnet is accused of taking Rs 390,000 from a victim with the promise of employment in Malaysia, while Thakuri allegedly received Rs 100,000 from another victim by claiming he could arrange a job in Croatia before losing contact.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested the suspects from Kathmandu and Lalitpur following complaints lodged by the victims.
Syangtan has been handed over to the Kathmandu District Police Range for further investigation, while Basnet and Thakuri have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further legal action.
Separately, police arrested Krishna Kumar Rai, a fugitive wanted in a banking offence case. Rai, a resident of Deumai Municipality-2 in Ilam, was arrested from Balkhu in Kathmandu after an arrest warrant had been issued by the Ilam District Court. He has been sent to the Ilam District Police Office for further investigation.
