KATHMANDU, June 14: A western low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere, along with local and easterly winds, is currently influencing Nepal's weather.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, skies are generally cloudy over the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Madhesh Province is partly cloudy, while the Tarai of Sudurpashchim remains mostly clear. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
This afternoon, the Himalayan region, particularly in Koshi Province, is expected to remain generally cloudy, while the rest of the hills and the Tarai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces will see partly cloudy conditions. Weather is likely to remain mostly clear across other Tarai regions.
Thunderstorms forecast till Thursday
The department has forecast moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few locations in Koshi Province and in parts of the country's hilly and Himalayan regions.
Light snowfall is also possible in the higher Himalayan areas. A few places in the Tarai of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as parts of Madhesh Province, may experience moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.
Tonight, partly cloudy conditions are expected in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, along with the country's hilly and Himalayan regions. Weather elsewhere is likely to remain mostly clear.
A few locations in Koshi Province may receive moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning, while snowfall is possible in the Himalayan region. Isolated areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may see light rain and snowfall.
Similar thunderstorm activity with moderate rainfall is also possible at one or two locations in Madhesh Province.
The department has urged the public to remain alert to possible impacts from thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall.
