UML and NCP urge PM Shah to change parliamentary conduct

“The prime minister comes and leaves without even looking at anyone. What kind of working style is this? We have all been saying that we will cooperate, but it is not appropriate for the prime minister to think he does not even need to acknowledge anyone. We cannot move forward this way."

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The parliamentary leaders of the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) have urged Prime Minister Balendra Shah to change his working style and adopt a more inclusive approach.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, NCP Parliamentary Party (PP) leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML PP leader Ram Bahadur Thapa drew the prime minister’s attention to the issue.

Dahal criticized Prime Minister Shah for allegedly ignoring political parties, saying the prime minister should represent everyone and end the practice of disregarding political parties.

“The prime minister comes and leaves without even looking at anyone. What kind of working style is this? We have all been saying that we will cooperate, but it is not appropriate for the prime minister to think he does not even need to acknowledge anyone. We cannot move forward this way,” he said.

Dahal said the prime minister should move forward responsibly while bringing all sides together.

Similarly, UML parliamentary party leader Thapa said Prime Minister Shah’s unilateral style of governance needed to change. He said the government must be fully accountable to Parliament and that the prime minister should regularly inform Parliament about the government’s plans.

Saying the current crisis could only be addressed through national consensus, Thapa suggested that the government establish a broad-based mechanism involving political parties, civil society and experts.
