KATHMANDU, Dec 28: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has criticized the seven-point political agreement between Rabi Lamichhane and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, claiming it is part of a broader conspiracy aimed at pushing Nepal toward instability similar to Ukraine.
In a social media post, Pokhrel said the incidents of September 8 and 9 marked the first phase of an alleged geopolitical plot to turn Nepal into a pawn in international power struggles. “Those events were the first stage of a conspiracy to destabilize Nepal like Ukraine by exploiting geopolitical conflict,” he wrote, adding that preparations for a second phase were now underway.

Pokhrel warned that, given the seriousness of the situation, patriotic forces committed to the constitution and democracy must remain alert and united. He stressed that all responsible actors must play an active role in preventing Nepal from being drawn into geopolitical confrontation.
Referring to the first day of the Gen Z protest on September 8, Pokhrel alleged that a peaceful youth demonstration was deliberately provoked into violence, resulting in the deaths of several young people. He further claimed that on September 24, the unrest was used as a pretext to attack key pillars of the state and democracy with the aim of weakening the nation’s sovereignty and capacity.
According to Pokhrel, details about those who planned and executed what he termed “destructive activities” are gradually coming to light.
His remarks came shortly after Lamichhane and Shah announced their seven-point political understanding, which has sparked fresh debate across Nepal’s political landscape.
