UML Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel detained in money laundering probe

KATHMANDU, June 22: CPN-UML Vice Chair Bishnu Prasad Paudel has been taken into custody by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DoMLI) in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged illicit assets.



According to police sources, Paudel was detained from Surkhet, where he had arrived to attend a party programme, and has been taken into custody for further investigation.

Officials said the action is linked to scrutiny over his stock market transactions and the suspected sources of his wealth. A senior source at the department stated that the investigation is focusing on possible irregularities in his financial dealings.


Paudel is currently being brought to Kathmandu for further interrogation, with authorities considering transport either by air or road depending on security arrangements.


He was reportedly taken directly from the event site and is being held at the District Police Office in Surkhet until transfer arrangements are completed.


Paudel is a senior leader of the UML and a former Deputy Prime Minister as well as Finance Minister.
