In an apparent criticism of the current government's actions, Acharya said the mandate given by the people is meant to serve the public interest, and abusing it in an authoritarian manner is a serious matter.

Writing on social media on Sunday, he said it was inhumane to attempt to evict landless, squatter, and low-income families taking shelter at a holding center after recent floods without first arranging an alternative place to live.

Acharya said the flood affected families, already traumatized by flooding and displacement, are now facing greater hardship, psychological stress, and uncertainty. He condemned what he described as the government's decision to issue ultimatums, threaten residents staying in state-run shelters, and expose them to the risk of hunger.

He questioned the government's approach, saying a democratic mandate does not justify arbitrary actions.

Acharya urged the government to respect the constitutional rights to life and safe housing. He said authorities should adopt a "rehabilitation before relocation" policy by ensuring alternative housing, resettlement, and livelihood opportunities before moving affected families.

He also called on the government to immediately stop using force against citizens and halt any actions that violate human rights.

Warning that ignoring people's basic needs and humanitarian concerns could fuel serious public dissatisfaction, Acharya urged the government to act responsibly in accordance with the Constitution and democratic values.
