NEW YORK, June 13: The United Nations renewed its call today for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned in a statement that civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza, including aid workers and their buildings and property, remain vulnerable to Israeli airstrikes, shelling, and gunfire. Injuries and damage have been reported.

The statement noted that a building belonging to a humanitarian organization in Deir al-Balah was damaged yesterday (Thursday) by an Israeli airstrike on a nearby area. The entry of supplies into Gaza through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing has also been reduced due to infrastructure work.

The statement further explained that access to water and sanitation services for residents throughout the West Bank remains limited due to settler violence, movement restrictions, demolitions, and the destruction of infrastructure, particularly in the northern West Bank, Masafer Yatta in the south, and other areas.

The United Nations, together with its humanitarian partners, transported food, medicine and hygiene supplies to Gaza for distribution to the most vulnerable families. The World Health Organization and its partners also supported the medical evacuation of 26 patients and their companions.
