MKATHMANDU, July 21: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the party must restore its lost moral authority and public identity, arguing that it spent the past decade prioritizing power over principles.
Speaking at the launch of Buddha, BP and Today’s Leaders and the Little Men of Lilliput, a book written by Nepali Congress General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire, Thapa said discussions about past political events and leaders are natural, but the more pressing challenge is rebuilding the party’s credibility in society.
Political instability, lack of vision led to wasted generation
He said the party must emerge from what he described as the “dark decade” between 2015 and 2025 to regain the moral authority it once enjoyed. “We wasted 10 years chasing power and political office while abandoning our principles and values,” Thapa said.
He added that grassroots members and younger leaders are working to make the party relevant again by drawing inspiration from the ideals and values of the party’s founding leaders.
Thapa also pledged his full support to young party members committed to putting the Nepali Congress back on the right path.
