KATHMANDU, June 4: Around 700 cyclists, including lawmakers and environmental advocates, joined a rally in Kathmandu on Wednesday to mark World Bicycle Day and call for greater investment in cycling infrastructure.
Organized by the Nepal Cycle Society (NCS) under the theme “Bicycle for Daily Commuting,” the rally highlighted cycling as a sustainable solution to traffic congestion, air pollution, fuel consumption, and public health challenges, according to an NCS press statement.

Participants urged the government to adopt a National Bicycle Vision 2030, introduce bicycle-friendly policies, and expand cycling infrastructure across the country.
Women accounted for nearly two-thirds of the participants, organizers said. Similar rallies and awareness programs were also held in Pokhara, Birtamod, Bhairahawa, Bara and other cities.
