Youth leaders gather in Kathmandu to strengthen democratic advocacy

KATHMANDU, June 20: Young leaders, student representatives, civil society members and youth advocates from across the country gathered in Kathmandu on Friday for a programme aimed at strengthening youth participation in democratic governance and advocacy.



The event brought together 40 participants for discussions on democratic engagement, policymaking and youth-led advocacy initiatives.


Participants attended sessions on Nepal's parliamentary system, public policy formulation and advocacy strategies designed to improve engagement with elected representatives. The programme also featured group discussions and networking activities to foster collaboration among young people working on civic engagement and accountability issues.

The programme was organised by Samanwaya Nepal in partnership with the Youth Democracy Network. According to a press release, it provided a platform for participants to exchange experiences, build partnerships and explore ways to strengthen evidence-based policy dialogue and democratic participation.


Samanwaya Nepal Founder and Executive Director Jagdish Ayer said the organisation remains committed to promoting youth leadership, democratic values and collaborative networks that encourage meaningful participation in governance and policymaking.


Participants stressed the need for greater opportunities for young people to engage in policy discussions, civic activities and democratic processes.


The organizers said they would continue organising similar initiatives to support youth engagement, strengthen democratic institutions and promote constructive dialogue between young people and decision-makers.
