KAPILVASTU, June 21: A 19-year-old youth was seriously injured after a government vehicle used by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Uma Chaturbedi collided with a motorcycle in Taulihawa, the district headquarters of Kapilvastu.
The accident occurred in front of Hotel Shankar while the vehicle, bearing registration number BA 7460, was heading from Bhairahawa to Krishnanagar to pick up AIG Chaturbedi. The vehicle struck an Indian-registered motorcycle, seriously injuring Irfan Khan, 19, of Malparwa, Ward No. 4 of Kapilvastu Municipality.
The collision took place at around 1:15 pm on Saturday. Two other people travelling on the same motorcycle sustained minor injuries. They have been identified as Irfan’s elder brother Rijanwan Khan and Yash Raj Prajapati of Ward No. 12, Bithuwa, Kapilvastu Municipality.

Irfan is receiving treatment at Universal Medical College, Bhairahawa. His grandfather, Shamsul Doha, said that Irfan remains unconscious and is being treated in the hospital’s ventilator unit.
He alleged that police had not assisted with the treatment expenses and that the family was covering the costs themselves. According to Doha, the vehicle left the scene after the collision.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh said the vehicle involved in the accident has been taken into police custody. He stated that police are maintaining continuous coordination with the victim’s family regarding the treatment of the injured.
Police have preserved CCTV footage of the incident. AIG Chaturbedi had arrived in Krishnanagar three days earlier to inaugurate an anti-drug campaign by the local police.
