JANAKPURDHAM, Nov 15: Amid the ongoing political and constitutional turbulence in Madhesh Province, Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has reached out to agitating parties in the province, urging them to engage in dialogue and resolve disputes through consensus.

Addressing the public on Friday, CM Yadav emphasized the need to halt ongoing agitations and highlighted that collaboration and discussion remain the only sustainable solutions to the province’s challenges. He criticized certain Madhesh-based parties for lacking a constructive agenda and appealed for all stakeholders to abandon confrontational approaches and participate in talks.

CM Yadav reiterated his respect for the Supreme Court’s authority, assuring that he would abide by the apex court’s interim order which currently restricts his government from making long-term or policy-level decisions. He reaffirmed his commitment to the Constitution of Nepal and federal principles, stating that dialogue and constitutional processes are paramount in resolving political crises.

The outreach comes against a backdrop of escalating tensions following the controversial appointment of CM Yadav by former Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari under Article 168(3) of the Constitution. Opposition parties denounced the move as unconstitutional, leading to Bhandari’s dismissal and the swift appointment of Surendra Labh Karn as the new Province Chief by President Ramchandra Paudel.

Further controversy had arisen after the swearing-in of CM Yadav took place in a hotel resort along the Mahottari–Sindhuli border rather than the official provincial headquarters, raising questions about transparency and propriety. The Supreme Court has also intervened, issuing an interim order preventing CM Yadav and his Council of Ministers from making long-term decisions, with a final hearing scheduled for November 27, 2025.

Despite the legal and political uncertainty, CM Yadav’s call for dialogue represents the first effort by the provincial leadership to de-escalate tensions and seek consensus-based solutions, signaling a potential path toward stabilizing Madhesh Province’s political landscape.
