MUGU, Oct 29: Rara Lake welcomed around 19,457 visitors over the past fiscal year, but less than 2 percent of them were foreign tourists.
According to Rishikesh Yadav, acting chief of Rara National Park, 98.18 percent of the visitors were domestic tourists—12,933 men and 6,171 women. Only 77 visitors came from SAARC countries and 276 from other nations.
Over 15,000 visited Rara Lake in a year
In the first three months of the current Fiscal Year (FY) alone, 2,380 tourists have visited Rara including 33 foreigners.
Officials say the number of domestic visitors has surged with the upgrade of the Karnali Highway, making it easier to reach the lake by road. The flow of Nepali tourists especially increases during the Dashain and Tihar festivals, Yadav added.
