KATHMANDU, Dec 1: As many as 25 billionaires from various countries are set to arrive in Lumbini — the birthplace of Lord Buddha — to participate in the World Peace Program scheduled for December 10, 11 and 12.
According to Sulochana Khatri, media coordinator for the event, this is the first time that 25 global billionaires will participate in the third edition of the World Peace Program.

Among the notable attendees are Dr. Sureshkumar Madhusudhan, chair of Sigal International Group in Kerala, India; Lojze Peterle, the first Prime Minister of independent Slovenia and former member of the European Parliament; former Ethiopian Prime Minister Tamrat Layne; and Dr. Siddeeq Ahmed of ERAAM Holdings, a major business group active in the UAE and India.
Khatri said the event is expected to draw more than 10,000 participants including leaders and scholars from Nepal and abroad, UN cultural ambassadors, internationally recognized business leaders, artists, youth representatives and community delegates.
A delegation of Chinese business representatives from Lumbini will also take part in the program.
Over the course of three days, discussions and debates will center on themes such as peace, climate change, development, inner well-being, social justice, practical peacebuilding and the voices of youth, women, indigenous communities and marginalized groups in local governance and daily leadership, the event coordinator Shekhar Gautam said.
The program will also feature cultural exhibitions, musical performances and artistic showcases.
