63 percent of candidates under 50, only 6 percent above 65

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Of the candidates who filed nominations under the first-past-the-post system for the House of Representatives (HoR) election, 63 percent are below the age of 50, according to the Election Commission (EC).



The EC stated that out of 3,484 candidates contesting the election, 2,193—or 62.94 percent—are under 50 years of age.

The minimum age required to contest the election is 25. According to the EC, 583 candidates fall in the 25–35 age group, while 1,610 candidates are aged between 36 and 50. Among candidates aged 25–35, 67 are women, while 235 women are in the 36–50 age bracket.


Candidates aged between 51 and 65 account for 1,090, or 31.28 percent of the total, while those above 65 years number 201, representing 5.76 percent, the EC said.
