76 bodies from Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood buried in Pokhara

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: Seventy-six unidentified bodies recovered following the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods have been buried in Pokhara after efforts to identify them remained unsuccessful.



The bodies were brought to Kaski from Tanahun, Nawalpur, Dhading, Gorkha and other districts for examination and identification. Of 102 bodies brought to Kaski, 21 had been identified earlier.

As preparations were underway to bury 78 unidentified bodies together, relatives came forward and identified two more bodies at the last moment. The remaining 76 bodies were subsequently buried in a pit in Pokhara Metropolitan City-16.


Kaski police chief Superintendent of Police Nabin Karki said the bodies were buried safely after preserving necessary forensic and identification evidence.


The 23 identified bodies have been handed over to their respective families. Police said efforts to identify the buried bodies will continue using information, photographs and other technical evidence provided by relatives.
