Chief Justices of Nepal and Bangladesh discuss on judicial reforms and cooperation

The two Chief Justices discussed the legal and judicial practices of both countries, focusing on shared experiences and ongoing reforms aimed at delivering more efficient and accessible justice to the people, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh.

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut held a bilateral meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Sunday morning.



The two Chief Justices discussed the legal and judicial practices of both countries, focusing on shared experiences and ongoing reforms aimed at delivering more efficient and accessible justice to the people, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh.


Chief Justice Raut was accompanied by Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, Justice Binod Sharma, Chief Registrar Bimal Paudel and Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari. All Justices of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh were present during the meeting.

Following the discussions, Chief Justice Raut and Chief Justice Ahmed co-presided over a hearing at the Appellate Division, where both sides expressed their appreciation for the strong relationship between the judiciaries of Nepal and Bangladesh.


Chief Justice Ahmed emphasized the enduring cooperation between the two countries’ courts, while Chief Justice Raut commended Bangladesh’s judicial efficiency and the opportunity to observe its proceedings firsthand.


In the afternoon, the Nepali delegation took part in a thematic discussion on “Roadmap, Roadshow Legislative Changes, Judicial Integrity and Partnership Building,” chaired by Chief Justice Ahmed. He shared recent progress in judicial reform initiatives across Bangladesh, highlighting structural and procedural advancements.


Chief Justice Raut led a parallel session on “Delivering Justice while Managing Crisis,” where he underscored Nepal’s experience in maintaining judicial integrity during challenging periods. Justice Malla also spoke on the Supreme Court of Nepal’s structural reform efforts to strengthen judicial governance.


In a separate session, Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla of Nepal and Justice Farah Mahbub of Bangladesh jointly led a discussion on “Digitalization, Gender Justice, Specialization of Courts, Judicial Independence and Integrity.” The event included participation from a delegation of women Justices of Bangladesh’s High Court Division.


Justice Malla highlighted Nepal’s progress toward gender equality in the judiciary and noted shared challenges in ensuring women’s meaningful representation in judicial leadership. Justice Mahbub outlined Bangladesh’s strategic roadmap for judicial reform and the positive changes implemented in recent years.
