KATHMANDU, Jan 14: General Secretary Gagan Thapa has filed his candidacy for the president of the Nepali Congress (NC). According to the Election Committee, he submitted his nomination at the Special Convention venue at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, candidates for the position of General Secretary include Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Pradip Paudel.

As per the party’s existing statute, the upcoming election will see voting for one president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, eight deputy general secretaries, and 121 central working committee members.
Following the procedure set by the Special General Convention, a five-member Election Committee has been formed under the coordination of senior advocate Sitaram KC. According to him, the list of candidates will be made public at 1 PM.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, Thapa and Sharma held talks with President Sher Bahadur Deuba to seek consensus, but the discussions were unsuccessful.
