KATHMANDU, April 26: Nepal Police has said it remains fully committed to ensuring justice and protection of rights for genuine landless people during ongoing efforts to manage and relocate informal settlements across the Kathmandu Valley.

The statement comes amid the eviction drive launched under the direction of Prime Minister Balen Shah, under which 219 families have been relocated to a stadium by Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the management of settlements along Thapathali, Gairigaun, Sinamangal and the Manohara riverbanks is being carried out with a focus on humanitarian sensitivity.

Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki and Additional Inspector General Ishwar Karki of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, also conducted on-site inspections to review the operation.

Police said identifying genuine landless residents and ensuring safe shelter and dignified living conditions remains the top priority during the relocation process.

Authorities also warned that some individuals have been attempting to misuse the identity of squatters for undue benefits, depriving real victims of state support. Police said monitoring has been intensified to take legal action against those involved in such activities.

Security has been tightened in anticipation of possible resistance or disruption, and intelligence collection and analysis has been stepped up to ensure a smooth relocation process.

Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abi Narayan Kafle said the organization will leave no stone unturned to secure the future of genuine victims.

He said, “Nepal Police has always remained committed to ensuring justice, rights and secure housing for genuine victims. We urge real squatters and landless people to cooperate with the state-led management process and support security agencies by providing timely and accurate information.”
