KATHMANDU, March 13: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the government to take all necessary measures to ensure the smooth supply of petroleum products, including LPG gas.
In a press statement issued on Friday, Under Secretary Shyam Babu Kafle said the MHRC has instructed the government to take legal action against those creating artificial shortages, regulate unnecessary hoarding, and immediately ensure the supply of essential commodities to protect consumer rights.

The NHRC said it has monitored and inspected several agencies, including Nepal Oil Corporation, the Department of Commerce, and Nepal Food Management and Trading Company Limited, along with LPG distribution depots.
According to the NHRC, Nepal remains largely dependent on imports for petroleum products, but the raw materials required for supply are currently being imported regularly as usual.
The statement noted that while some disruption has occurred due to transportation management issues by a few gas companies, reports in the media suggesting a broader supply crisis have prompted consumers to stockpile gas unnecessarily. The commission also found that some traders have contributed to creating artificial shortages.
The NHRC said it had taken note of various news reports highlighting LPG shortages in the Kathmandu Valley and the concern and fear among consumers, particularly amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
