KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a habeas corpus order for the release of Nepal Communist Party (Majority) leader Dharmendra Bastola. A joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Nityananda Pandey issued the order on Wednesday.
Bastola had been arrested by police on charges of being involved in activities aimed at boycotting the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.

Following his arrest, Sabitri Kumari Oli filed a habeas corpus petition at the SC, naming as defendants the chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku; the chief of the District Police Range, Kathmandu; the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office; the District Police Range, Kathmandu; the District Administration Office, Kathmandu; and its chief district officer.
Acting on the petition, the court ordered his release.
