MAHOTTARI, July 7: The sugarcane farmers in the district have been paid nearly Rs 2 billion that had been pending for a long time. They received payment for the produce they supplied to two sugar mills.
The District Administration Office, Mahottari, informed that the sugarcane farmers were provided over Rs 1.76 billion for their crops supplied to two sugar mills – Everest Sugar and Chemical Industries at Gaushala Municipality-1 and Siddhibinayak Sugar and Chemical Industries at Gaushala-12.
Farmers demanding payment of sugarcane stop sugar exports
The farmers had provided 2.8 million quintals of sugarcane in the current fiscal year, 2082/83. The payment was calculated and cleared accordingly, according to Chief Administrative Officer Kameshwor Yadav.
However, the grant to be provided by the government to the farmers is yet to be ensured. So, the Office of the Comptroller in the district has written for it. The district payment committee wrote to the Comptroller's Office, informing them of the due grants of Rs 207 million.
The payment committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Chief District Officer. The clearance for the cash crops handed over to the mills will be over within this very fiscal year, according to the District Administration Office.
