KATHMANDU, Jan 9: The Election Commission (EC) has set up a system allowing political parties to access voter information nationwide—provided they pay a fee. But not all details are up for grabs.
Under the EC’s guidelines for House of Representatives elections, registered political parties can obtain the complete voter list for Rs 10,000. The information is shared only after the party submits an official request to the EC. However, sensitive details such as voters’ dates of birth, citizenship numbers, and mobile numbers remain strictly confidential.

The voter data will be provided electronically, either on a hard drive or a pen drive. Parties seeking the list for a single province can obtain it for Rs 5,000. EC officials have emphasized that voters, party representatives, and candidates cannot tamper with, damage, or alter the voter list while accessing it.
The EC also clarified that voter lists with photos can only be viewed by the voter themselves, while lists without photos can be accessed by anyone. If a voter wants a copy of their personal voter details, the EC will provide it for Rs 10,000, containing only that individual’s information.
Registered political parties can request voter data electronically based on an official letter, while independent candidates can apply individually. Access to the entire district voter list comes at Rs 3,000, and Rs 3,000 for a single electoral constituency.
Even with these arrangements, the EC has made it clear that personal identifiers—date of birth, mobile number, and citizenship number—will never be shared, ensuring voter privacy is maintained.
