KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Bangladesh plunged into fresh unrest following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent leader of the July Uprising, who succumbed to gunshot injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore, the Hindu daily reported.
Hadi, who was shot last week, died on Thursday after battling for his life for six days, according to the Hindu daily.

In a televised address to the nation late Thursday night, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus confirmed Hadi’s death and vowed to swiftly bring those responsible for what he described as a “brutal murder” to justice, the Hindu daily reported. Yunus also urged the public to remain calm and maintain peace.
Following the announcement, hundreds of students and supporters gathered at the Shahbagh intersection near Dhaka University, chanting slogans such as “Who are you, who am I – Hadi, Hadi,” the Hindu daily said.
The situation escalated as thousands of protesters took to the streets of Dhaka, triggering violence. Several buildings in the capital, including those housing the country’s two leading newspapers, were set on fire, with staff reportedly trapped inside, authorities told the Hindu daily.
A group believed to be protesters also attacked the office of Bangla daily Prothom Alo at Karwan Bazar near the Shahbagh intersection, the Hindu daily reported.
