KATHMANDU, May 1: Squatter families displaced during eviction operations carried out on Thursday will be accommodated at five temporary shelter locations, authorities said.
Makeshift settlements in areas including Balkhu, Banshighat, Balaju and Shankhamul were demolished earlier in the day as part of the relocation drive.
According to officials, the displaced families will be temporarily housed at the TEWA office in Dhapakhel, the Electricity Training Center in Kharipati, the Agricultural Development Bank Training Center in Bode, the Nagarkot Water Supply Training Center, and the Nepal Red Cross Society building in Banepa, Kavre.
Security personnel build shelters for landslide-hit families
Before being transported to the temporary shelters, displaced residents are being registered at the Dasharath Stadium. Authorities said that 72 people had voluntarily arrived at the stadium and registered their details as of Thursday afternoon.
The registration process at the stadium is being carried out jointly by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police.
