KATHMANDU, April 17: Outpatient Department (OPD) services in government hospitals will once again remain closed on Sundays after the government’s decision to implement two public holidays per week.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population had urged hospitals to keep OPD services open on Sundays, citing possible inconvenience to patients due to the two-day weekend system. However, following objections from medical professionals’ associations, the ministry has reverted to the previous arrangement.
Department of Passport to open on Sundays as well
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry clarified that while the two-day public holiday system will be implemented, essential health services will not be disrupted.
Emergency services and inpatient care will continue 24 hours a day without interruption, the ministry said.
It further stated that scheduled surgeries and other services planned for Sundays will be rescheduled based on patient convenience. Patients requiring referral will be transferred to appropriate hospitals, and ambulance services will remain on standby at all times.
The ministry has also directed hospitals to ensure proper arrangements so that health services are not affected during holidays and to keep the public informed about available services through websites and notice boards.
