KATHMANDU, April 20: In a move aimed at easing cash flow for public employees, the government has decided to pay civil servants every 15 days, scrapping the long-standing monthly salary system.
The decision was taken by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) at the ministerial level last Friday, with an official circular already issued to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) to begin implementation.

According to the circular signed by Joint Secretary Dr Suman Dahal of the MoF’s Budget and Program Division, the practice of disbursing salaries only after the completion of a full month will be replaced with a semi-monthly payment system. Authorities have been instructed to make the necessary technical and administrative arrangements.
Following the directive, the FCGO has initiated groundwork to roll out the new system.
Until now, government employees received their salaries in a lump sum at the end of each Nepali month—a system that often left many, particularly lower-level staff, stretched in managing day-to-day expenses. The shift to fortnightly payments is expected to provide more regular financial relief and smoother household budgeting.
