Mechi Customs reports 33% rise in cardamom exports, tea falls sharply

MECHI, Oct 26: Cardamom exports from Mechi Customs Office rose by 33 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2082/83.
According to the office, exports totaled Rs 167.91 million, with 1,072 metric tons shipped during the three-month period, said information officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain. In the same period last year (2081/82), cardamom exports were Rs 107.22 million.
Meanwhile, tea exports fell 40.9 percent in the same period, totaling Rs 101.21 million compared to Rs 171.40 million in the previous year, Humagain added.
Other major exports saw significant growth: veneer sheets up 126 percent, chhurpi 61.8 percent, plywood 100 percent, cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage 71.4 percent, other metal residues 100 percent, and lentils 481 percent.
However, ginger exports declined by 32.3 percent and amriso (Indian madder) by 24 percent. In total, goods worth Rs 480.39 million were exported through Mechi Customs in the first three months of 2082/83.
