Nepal to deny visa to Iranian citizens

Under the new provision, Iranian nationals—except those holding official and diplomatic passports—will now be required to obtain visas from Nepali diplomatic missions abroad before entering Nepal.

KATHMANDU, March 14: Nepal has decided not to provide visa on arrival to citizens of Iran visiting the country.



Under the new provision, Iranian nationals—except those holding official and diplomatic passports—will now be required to obtain visas from Nepali diplomatic missions abroad before entering Nepal.

With this decision, the number of countries whose citizens are not eligible for on-arrival visas in Nepal has reached 13, according to the Department of Immigration (DoI) Nepal.


Other countries whose citizens are not eligible for such visas include Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria.


Director General of the DoI, Tikaram Dhakal, said individuals holding refugee travel documents will also be required to obtain visas from Nepali embassies abroad before entering Nepal.
