KATHMANDU, July 10: Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Abi Narayan Kafle has denied reports that Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prasanna Raj Chaudhary was recalled from his posting for questioning over a recent public remark.

Media reports had claimed Chaudhary, who is posted in Kailali, had been subjected to disciplinary action after a video of him saying, "We are not Balen's police," while referring to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, went viral on social media.

Kafle said those reports were inaccurate.

"No disciplinary action has been taken against him, nor has he been suspended," Kafle said. "Nepal Police functions under a chain of command. We only sought verbal clarification through the concerned provincial office. No formal or written disciplinary process has been initiated."

Kafle said police personnel, as government employees, are expected to maintain professional conduct and uphold the dignity of their office while speaking at public events.

"When making public statements, especially when referring to an individual by name, officers are expected to exercise greater responsibility and restraint," he said. "Even while addressing students, they are expected to communicate in a courteous and professional manner. We simply wanted to understand the context in which the remarks were made as part of a routine administrative and professional process."

He emphasized that seeking clarification is a normal internal procedure and should not be interpreted as disciplinary action or an official investigation.
