KATHMANDU, Jan 24: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has accused the current government of intentionally humiliating opposition leaders, claiming that he was subjected to excessive scrutiny at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Speaking at a program on Saturday at the UML central office in Chyasal, Oli recounted his experience returning from his home district, Jhapa, saying he was treated like a gold smuggler during routine security checks.

"When I left for Jhapa recently, the airport staff treated me well, but yesterday, on my return, I was checked as if I were a gold smuggler and harassed me unnecessarily," he said.

The former prime minister added that he has never faced such treatment even abroad, yet in his own country, he was publicly humiliated.

"Abroad, even in unknown locations, they do not treat us like this. Here, in our own country, we are being humiliated. When I asked why, they said it was ‘an order from above,’" he stated.

Oli accused the government of being focused on causing suffering and disrespecting leaders. "This government’s approach is to humiliate leaders. It is not a responsible government, it is an uncivil one," he said.

Despite the alleged harassment, Oli affirmed that UML will continue to fight for the nation and its people.
