KATHMANDU, July 19: The CPN-UML is holding an interaction program with its lawmakers today to strengthen the party's role in Parliament.
The program, organized by the party's Parliamentary Department at the party's central office at 11 am, will feature party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, who will provide training on the role UML lawmakers are expected to play in Parliament, according to Padma Aryal, head of the Parliamentary Department and party secretary.

Aryal said former Parliament Secretariat Secretary Hark Raj Rai will brief lawmakers on the functions, duties and powers of the Parliament Secretariat. He will also explain the jurisdiction of parliamentary committees and the issues lawmakers should raise within those committees.
Similarly, party General Secretary Shankar Pokharel will train lawmakers on the party's policies and their responsibilities as members of Parliament. According to Aryal, Pokharel will stress that every UML lawmaker should act in Parliament in line with the party's policies and coordinate with the party's relevant departments for consultation on subject specific matters.
According to Niraj Acharya, chief of the party's Publicity and Publication Department, all department heads and former department members have also been invited to attend the program. The concerned departments will recommend subject experts to create a roster that lawmakers can consult whenever they need expert advice on parliamentary matters.
Lawmakers from both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly are expected to participate in the program.
