KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Education, Science and Technology Minister Mahabir Pun has said meaningful reform of schools will be difficult unless parents launch strong and collective movements at the local level.

In a Facebook post, Minister Pun said widespread irregularities, mismanagement, corruption and politicisation in many schools across Nepal cannot be eliminated without united and forceful pressure from parents. “Unless local parents come together, issue stern warnings and mount strong movements, reform will be hard to achieve,” he wrote.

He added that the constitution grants parents full authority to take such action. “The constitution itself gives parents the complete right to do so,” Pun said.

Stressing that directives from the education ministry alone are insufficient, the minister called on parents to take ownership of their children’s future. “It is no longer enough for the ministry to issue instructions from Kathmandu,” he wrote, urging parents nationwide to remain vigilant and proactive in demanding better schools.
