KATHMANDU, July 8: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against eight pharmacy officials and staff of Civil Service Hospital, accusing them of embezzling nearly Rs 29.1 million through irregularities in medicine procurement and inventory management.
The case was filed at the Special Court on Wednesday against pharmacy unit chief and pharmacy officer Deepa Dhungana, pharmacy assistants Lavendra Kunwar, Deepak Sapkota and Keshav Raj Neupane, senior pharmacy assistants Dinesh Pant, Binod Pokharel and Sharmila Shrestha, and storekeeper and pharmacy assistant Sandip Tiwari.

According to the CIAA, each defendant has been charged with causing a loss of Rs 29,134,547.37.
The anti-graft body alleged that the accused colluded with medicine suppliers to process payments for drugs that were never delivered to the hospital by manipulating bills and procurement records.
The investigation also found that medicines worth millions of rupees had expired while lying in the hospital's store and stairways, and that several medicines shown as available in the computerized inventory were not physically found in stock.
