KATHMANDU, April 17: The Supreme Court (SC) has granted Prime Minister Balen Shah permission to appoint a representative (warrantee) to attend proceedings in an ongoing contempt of court case against him.
A joint bench of Justices Hari Phuyal and Shanti Singh Thapa issued the order allowing Shah’s representative to appear on his behalf for hearing dates in the case. With this decision, Shah will no longer be required to appear in person on routine dates, and his authorized representative can attend court proceedings instead.

Previously, the court had not granted such a facility in the case.
The contempt case has been pending at the SC for the past three years. It was filed by advocate Barsha Jha, following a social media post made by then-Kathmandu Mayor Shah after the Patan High Court issued an interim order regarding Hindi films in cinema halls.
The case remains under judicial consideration.
