Tourism department warns action against Everest Base Camp overnight stay packages

KATHMANDU, April 29: Department of Tourism has warned that action will be taken against individuals or agencies selling tourism packages that allow overnight stays at Everest Base Camp.



In a notice issued on Wednesday, branch officer Prakash Pokharel said the department had received complaints about advertisements promoting packages that include overnight stays at expedition camps in the Everest Base Camp area.

The department stated that under Clause 9(d) of the Mountaineering Regulation 2059, only expedition team members, sirdars, mountain guides, high-altitude workers, base camp workers and local workers are permitted to stay at the base camp without prior approval from the department.


The notice clarified that no other individuals are allowed to stay at the base camp without official authorization.


Pokharel urged all concerned parties to comply with the legal provisions of the mountaineering regulations and warned that anyone found violating the rules would face action in accordance with prevailing laws.
