KATHMANDU, April 16: The CPN-UML has entered a phase of introspection following its defeat in the 2026 House of Representatives (HoR) elections, with General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel saying the party is now focused on review and restructuring.
He said the review process is underway at the ward, municipal, and district levels, and a consolidated report will be prepared by the party secretariat after receiving inputs from the provinces.
NCP may face debacle in near future, claims Thapa
“At present, the UML has entered a review phase after the defeat it faced in the 2026 HoR elections. The review process is underway at the ward, municipal, and district levels,” he said. “After receiving review reports from the provinces, the central secretariat will prepare a consolidated report.”
Pokhrel added that the Central Secretariat has also begun collecting individual feedback from senior party cadres through an online questionnaire to make the process more systematic. Based on these inputs, the Central Committee—through the secretariat and in the presence of the party chair—will conduct a final review and set the party’s institutional position.
“In the context of the election review, the central secretariat has prepared an online questionnaire and is collecting individual feedback from senior cadres. Based on all these facts and suggestions, the central committee, through the secretariat and in the presence of the party chair, will carry out a comprehensive review and determine the party’s institutional outlook,” he added.
According to Pokhrel, the party will be revitalized and reorganized in a planned manner based on the review findings. He also urged party members not to be swayed by what he described as orchestrated and sponsored propaganda aimed at weakening the party.
“Based on the election review, the party will be revitalized and reorganized in a planned way. Therefore, I sincerely urge all party members not to be influenced by orchestrated and sponsored propaganda intended to create controversy and weaken the party,” he said.
